ID5 Remote Video Verification: How It Works

The ID5 is the least understood of HM Land Registry’s identity forms — mostly because you never fill it in yourself. So here is what it actually does, who completes it, and why it matters for anyone verifying their identity by video call.

What is an ID5 form?

An ID5 form confirms to HM Land Registry that a person’s identity was verified remotely, over a live video call, rather than face to face. Because remote verification became an accepted route under Practice Guide 67, the ID5 exists to record exactly how that check was carried out. So it always travels alongside an ID1 (for an individual) or an ID2 (for a company) — never on its own. You can read more on our ID5 verification page.

Who completes the ID5?

The professional who verifies you — a solicitor, licensed conveyancer or other authorised person — completes the ID5 during or immediately after your video call. You never complete any part of it yourself. So there is nothing for you to download, print or sign for the ID5 specifically.

When is an ID5 needed?

Whenever your ID1 or ID2 identity check happens by video call rather than in person. Because our whole service works by video, every verification we arrange includes an ID5 as standard. If your check were done face to face instead, no ID5 would be involved — but you would need to travel to the professional’s office for that.

What does the video call involve?

A short, secure call — usually around 15 minutes — where the solicitor checks your photo ID, confirms your details, and completes the paperwork. So you will need your passport or driving licence to hand, a stable internet connection, and a well-lit space. That is all.

Common questions

How much does ID5 verification cost?

With us, nothing extra. The £79 fee for your ID1 or ID2 verification includes the ID5, because it is all completed in the same video appointment — or £99 for overseas customers. See our pricing page for the full breakdown.

Do I need to book an ID5 separately?

No. So when you book an ID1 or ID2 verification with us, the ID5 comes as part of the appointment automatically — there is nothing separate to choose or pay for.

Can I download the ID5 form myself?

You can find it on GOV.UK, but there is no need — because it is completed entirely by the professional, downloading it yourself serves no purpose. Just bring your ID to the call and the solicitor handles the rest.

Is video verification accepted by HM Land Registry?

Yes. Practice Guide 67 sets out remote verification as an accepted route, provided the professional records it correctly on the ID5. So a properly completed ID1 or ID2 with an ID5 is treated the same as an in-person check.

How your video verification works

  1. Book a time. Book online now and pay securely, or message us on WhatsApp first if you have a question — same-day, evening and weekend appointments are often available.
  2. Verify by video call. Then a solicitor checks your ID on a short, secure call. This is the ID5 process.
  3. Get your forms. So your signed, stamped ID1 or ID2, together with the ID5, are sent to you the same day.
  4. Send to Land Registry. Then submit your forms alongside the rest of your application.
